Pascual Toso Hacienda San Jose Torrontes 2008, Mendoza, Argentina 13%

The Hacienda San José Torrontes, or HSJ for short, is produced by Pascual Toso Winery. Established in 1890 by the eponymous Mr. Toso, an emigrant from Piemonte in Italy, the winery has over 400 ha of vineyards in the premium Maipú region of Mendoza. Always an innovative and progressive winery, in 2001 the renowned Californian oenologist Paul Hobbs was appointed to increase wine quality to world class levels. He has certainly succeeded and in recognition of this Toso was named Argentinian Producer of the Year at the 2007 International Wine Challenge. Their pure unoaked Torrontes is an excellent example of this native variety. Light straw colour. Ripe peach and honey aromas with floral notes, especially rose petals. Medium bodied with a rich, textured mouthfeel. Flavours of nectarine, lychee, honey and refreshing grapefruit notes. Finishes long and dry with a delicate floral lift.
