Ventisquero, which translates as ‘glacier’, is a leading Chilean winery founded in 2000. Headed by winemaker Felipe Tosso, the estate has vineyards across the prestigious regions of Maipo, Lolol, Casablanca, Colchagua and Leyda. Unusually for Chilean winemaking, all of Ventisquero's wine comes from their own vineyards. The Reserva wines are from single valleys, and are distinguished by their superior complexity.
The Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon 2012 is dominantly Cabernet Sauvignon with a small addition of Syrah for additional aromatic complexity. A third of the wine was left unoaked and the remainder aged 10 months in French barriques, adding weight, structure and complexity. With a few years bottle age the 2012 has developed interesting notes of mocha, woodsmoke and tobacco leaf. Medium to full-bodied with plenty of ripe fleshy fruit, gentle savoury tannins and good freshness. A perfect partner to steak or mature Cheddar cheese. An impressive wine to enjoy now or keep to 2018.
